The Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) , THE BLACK BOX, Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) and Electric Youth are proudly participating in ArtWeek April 26 - May 5!
FSPA DanceSampler, April 27, 2-3:30 PM
All children are invited to FSPA's DanceSampler for a multi-disciplinary afternoon of dance! Beginners can discover, try, learn, and enjoy ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop and musical theater styles of dance. Groups of participants will move through FSPA's five dance studios, each room themed with music and props for an exciting afternoon of movement, music and fun! See Event!
FSPA Coffeehouse at Intermission - April 27, 2 PM and 4 PM
Intermission Cafe will host a coffee house performance featuring young singers and musical theater students from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts. Patrons are invited to enjoy specialty drinks and snacks in the arts-themed cafe and hear from the student performers as they guide audience members on an interactive journey through musical theater favorites, pop hits, and songs from the Great American Songbook. FPAC Presents Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - April 26 and 27, 7:30 PM
The Franklin Performing Arts Company presents Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Examining the complexities of marriage of two couples, the Art Week performances of this 1963 Tony Award winning play at THE BLACK BOX will include a talkback with the cast of four, including Director Nick Paone after the show on April 27th. THE BLACK BOX presents Diana Fanning - April 28, 4 PM
Pianist Diana Fanning will present a concert on THE BLACK BOX Classical Series. Ms. Fanning has toured extensively as a solo performance and chamber musician throughout the U.S. and Europe and serves as an Affiliate Artist at Middlebury College. Her Art week program includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Chapin, Debussy and Villa-Lobos and will be followed by an information talkback and Q&A with the audience. See Event!
THE BLACK BOX presents Kenny Hadley Big Band & FHS Jazz Ensemble - April 30, 7:30 PM
This event features a collaborative performance by the Franklin High School Music Department’s jazz ensemble and Kenny Hadley’s legendary Boston- based big band. Classic and contemporary arrangements will be performed with students playing side by side with mentor musicians. Commentary by the musicians will highlight the historical significance of the big band era, the impact of the specific selections being played, and the way the arrangers and performers approach the songs to make them unique. FPAC presents the Electric Youth Friendship Challenge - May 2, 6:00 PM
Franklin Performing Arts Company is pleased to present the ELECTRIC YOUTH Friendship Challenge as an ArtWeek event. Come and meet the members of ELECTRIC YOUTH as they share their personal stories about friendship and talk about why those stories are so important to them. Celebrate your own stories of friendship in return and work together to bring them to life on the stage! This is a very special event for kids ages 8-12. We will have the team from Bully: The Adjective with us--and participants will get a special certificate for taking the ELECTRIC YOUTH Friendship Challenge. See Event!
THE BLACK BOX presents The 50s - A Musical Tribute - May 3, 7:00 PM and 8:45 PM
THE BLACK BOX Decades Series presents a special tribute to the Fabulous Fifties hosted by Raye Lynn Mercer and featuring popular local singers and a Boston-based band. The show's narration will highlight the emergence of rock and roll, introducing the songs of a decade when the world of popular music changed forever. Iconic fashion and the new dances of the decade will be featured as the audience is treated to Fifties hits and the new sounds of rock and roll in a celebration of the Happy Days culture of the 1950s. FSPA presents Around the World in 8 Plays - May 4, 12:00 and 2:00 PM
Travel around the world and explore forgotten myths and unusual legends in eight fast-paced and hilarious tales! Guided by a band of roaming gypsies, the audience is transported from the ancient Far East, where a hero must kill a giant centipede to save a dragon king, to the Russian countryside, where a poor orphan must defeat three witches who stole his grandfather's eyes. Always quirky, and sometimes bizarre, these eight tales are filled with magic, mystery, and morals. A talkback with the young actors after the performance will give the audience an opportunity to ask about the character portrayals and the process of bringing the stories to life. See Event!
FPAC 5K Road Race and 1 Mile Fun Run - May 5, 9 AM (check-in)
Franklin Performing Arts Company 5K Road Race and 1 mile Fun Run will begin and end at the company's home THE BLACK BOX. Along the route, runners will be entertained and encouraged by sidewalk art created by student artists. THE BLACK BOX theater will feature facepainting and finish line sign making for children and a celebration with live music in the theater lobby to celebrate the runners! See Event!
